Do most insurance companies have a limit to how many ultrasounds they cover during pregnancy?
Question by Sunny: Do most insurance companies have a limit to how many ultrasounds they cover during pregnancy?
I am 5 weeks pregnant and my doctor wants me to come in this week for my first ultrasound. Do insurance companies only cover a certain amount? I’ll call my insurance company tomorrow to ask them, but just thought I could get a general idea from people on here. Thanks!

Usually yes. Most cover at least two as that is pretty standard.

I have medicaid and they cover 2 ultrasounds. One in the first trimester and then the one at 20 weeks or so.
The only way this changes is if ur a high risk or something is wrong.

some limit to one or two, while some cover any that the dr orders. I had 3 with my latest baby, but only one with my first.

I know I’ve got medicare through disability, and they covered all of the first one,but now I owe $ 62.00 on the second one. So it varies from insurance company to insurance company.

they only do like one unless it is a emergency than they will give you two or three. But you want to pay for the ultrasound yourself I say go for it. I would like to know what I am having but the baby kept his or her legs closed. Now I have to pack for a boy or a girl. I wish I knew how much the ultrasound cost so i can see for myself. I am going to have my baby on friday my third bundle of joy.
